Dominika Cieplak - The Lemko house – architecture of forgotten identity. The traditional chŷža, its contemporary reinterpretations and the role of architects in the transmission of the Lemko heritage

doi:10.37190/arc260101

The article focuses on the redefinition of the Lemko house in the context of post-war displacement and contemporary attempts to refer to the traditional architecture of the region. Particular attention is paid to the concept of the chŷža – the archetype of the Lemko house – and its contemporary reinterpretations in single-family housing. The analysis considers both material and immaterial aspects of heritage, revealing the tension between fidelity to tradition and adaptation to contemporary needs.

Angelika Czajczyńska-Mieszała, Bogusław Wowrzeczka - Adaptive transformations of tram depots for museums and exhibition spaces

    doi:10.37190/arc260102

The article analyzes the adaptive potential of former tram depots in the context of contemporary revitalization processes in post-industrial cities. Based on eight case studies, the authors assessed the suitability of these facilities for museum and exhibition functions, identifying characteristic adaptation strategies and their consequences for heritage preservation and sustainable design.

Aleksandra Gierko, Paulina Sołowiej - Internationale Bauausstellungen as an expression of the transformation of environmental, social, and economic paradigms in architecture and urban planning

    doi:10.37190/arc260103

This article presents a chronological analysis of German international construction exhibitions (IBA) concerning the natural environment, society, and the economy. The results show a clear evolution from events focused on architecture and structural solutions to complex instruments of spatial transformation, with growing significance attributed to environmental, social, and economic matters and a shift towards systemic, interdisciplinary interventions.

Joanna Jadwiga Białkiewicz - Defining biomimetic residential architecture: indicators and selected projects

    doi:10.37190/arc260104

This article examines contemporary biomimetic strategies in collective housing, showing how biomimetic criteria affect form, functioning, and underlying concepts. The analysis highlights the potential of biomimetic solutions to improve quality of life, foster social relations, and increase climate resilience, while underscoring that such housing remains largely conceptual.

Dominika Kumorek, Przemysław Kiełb - Biophilic solutions in higher education – an analysis of their presence on the Central Campus of the Warsaw University of Technology

    doi:10.37190/arc260105

The aim of this article is to assess the presence and extent of selected biophilic patterns within the Central Campus of the Warsaw University of Technology. The research methods included a literature review, field observation, and analysis of 14 biophilic patterns, with results presented as color-coded campus maps. The article concludes with recommendations for future development in line with biophilic principles.

Urszula Forczek-Brataniec, Katarzyna Jamioł - A review of pro-climate solutions carried out in selected projects of public space

    doi:10.37190/arc260106

This article reviews and typologizes pro-ecological solutions applied in contemporary European public space projects, with emphasis on water management and green infrastructure. Two main categories of interventions were distinguished – “water” and “greenery” – both related to the development of blue–green infrastructure in cities. The results indicate the growing importance of integrating water retention and ecosystem functions in shaping urban public spaces.

Maria Jankowska, Paweł Pedrycz - Design and construction of the first Polish urban aquaponic farm – case study

    doi:10.37190/arc260107

The article presents a case study on the design of an urban aquaponic farm established in Wrocław as part of the USAGE research project. The multi-stage planning process resulted in a public space composed of three modified shipping containers that serves as both a technological facility and a meeting and educational venue.

Radosław Achramowicz, Ewa Kuhnert - Identification and description of bio-innovations in architecture using the dedicated CLM Tool

    doi:10.37190/arc260108

The article provides a revision of the theoretical framework and methods for measuring innovation, based on an original research model called the Centrifuge Logic Machine (CLM). As the first in a series of articles, it presents the rationale for applying this novel apparatus and the results of testing it across three scales: architectural, urban planning, and industrial design, demonstrating the ability to compare innovations from various perspectives using a single apparatus.
